Lokachi is one of the district centers of Volyn region. The Jewish community in the town dates back to the second half of the 16th century. Gradually, the shtetl grew. As of 1897, there were 1730 Jews living in Lokachi; they comprised up to 75 % of the total population. The town was occupied by the Wehrmacht in the first days of the German-Soviet war. In October 1941, a ghetto was established in Lokachi; all the Jews from the town and its environs were relocated there. During the mass executions of the Jews in Volyn on September 9, 1942, the prisoners of the Lokachyn ghetto were also shot. The total number of victims reached around 1350 people. In 1989, a monument was erected at the site of the tragedy. As a result of the Red Army offensive, in July 1944, Wehrmacht troops left the area. |

Локачі – один із районних центрів Волинської області. Єврейська громада у містечку починає формуватись у другій половині XVI ст. Штетл поступово розвивався. Станом на 1897 р. у Локачах проживало 1730 євреї, які складали 75 % всього населення. Містечко було окуповане вермахтом вже у перші дні німецько-радянської війни. У жовтні 1941 р. у Локачах було створене гетто до якого переселили усіх євреїв містечка та околиць. Під час масових страт євреїв Волині, 9 вересня 1942 р. бранці локачинського гетто також були розстріляні. Загальна кількість жертв сягнула близько 1350 осіб. У 1989 р. на місці трагедії встановили пам’ятник. У результаті наступу Червоної армії, у липні 1944 р. війська вермахту залишили дану територію. |
