Ustyluh is a small town in the Volyn region, located 14 km west of Volodymyr-Volynskyi. The Jewish community of Ustyluh dates back to the 17th century. Gradually, the shtetl grew. As of 1897, there were already 3,212 Jews living in the town; they comprised up to 89% of the total population. Ustyluh is close to the border, therefore it was occupied by the Wehrmacht on the first day of the German-Soviet war—on June 22, 1941. In the first days of the occupation, 30 Jews were killed. The mass executions took place at the Jewish cemetery. In November 1941, 890 Jews were killed here. A ghetto was established in the town. Between September 1 and 15, 1942, the Jews of Ustyluh and the the surrounding area were shot in the village of Pyatydni, 6 km away from the town. As a result of the Red Army offensive on July 21, 1944, German troops were driven out of Ustyluh. |

Устилуг – невелике містечко у Волинській області, розташоване на 14 км західніше від Володимира-Волинського. Єврейська громада Устилуга бере свій відлік з XVII ст. Штетл поступово розвивався. У 1897 р. в містечку проживало 3 212 євреїв, які складали 89% від загальної чисельності населення. Устилуг межує з кордоном, відтак був окупований вермахтом вже на перший день німецько-радянської війни – 22 червня 1941 р. У перші дні окупації було вбито 30 євреїв. Місцем масових страт стало єврейське кладовище. У листопаді 1941 р. тут було вбито 890 євреїв. У містечку було створено гетто. У період з 1 по 15 вересня 1942 р. євреї Устилуга та округи були розстріляні у с. П’ятидні, що за 6 км від містечка. У результаті наступу Червоної армії, 21 липня 1944 р. війська вермахту були вибиті з Устилуга. |
