Volodymyr-Volynskyi is a city in the Volyn region. The first mention of Jews here dates back to the 12th century. The community was actively growing. As of 1897, there were already 5,869 Jews living in Volodymyr-Volynskyi, who comprised up to 60% of the total population. The city was occupied on the second day of the German-Soviet war, on June 23, 1941. The killings of Jews started immediately. From July 5 to September 29, 1941, the largest executions took place at the premises of the city prison. The largest massacre of the Jews of Volodymyr-Volynskyi and the whole district took place in the village of Pyatydni, 8 km away from the city. The shootings took place from September 1 to September 15, 1942. The total death toll could range from 13,500 to 18,000. During the German occupation, there were three ghettos in the city. One of them was located near Brovarna Street. It is known that a significant number of murders took place here in November 1942. As a result of combat operations, on July 20, 1944, Volodymyr-Volynskyi was taken over by the Red Army. |

Володимир-Волинський – місто у Волинській області. Перші згадки про євреїв відносяться до XII ст. Громада активно розвивалась. Станом на 1897 р. у Володимирі-Волинському вже проживало 5 869 євреїв, які складали майже 60% від загальної чисельності населення. Місто було окуповане на другий день німецько-радянської війни – 23 червня 1941 р. Одразу розпочались вбивства євреїв. Починаючи з 5 липня по 29 вересня 1941 р. найбільші страти відбувались на території міської в’язниці. Найбільша розправа над євреями Володимира-Волинського і всієї округи пройшла у с. П’ятидні, що за 8 км від міста. Розстріли відбувалися з 1 по 15 вересня 1942 р. Загальна кількість жертв сягнула від 13 500 до 18 000 людей. За час німецької окупації в місті діяло три гетто. Одне з них розташовувалось в районі вул. Броварної. Відомо, що значна кількість вбивств тут сталась в листопаді 1942 р. У результаті ведення бойових дій 20 липня 1944 р. Володимир-Волинськ зайняла Червона армія. |
