A large Jewish community lived in the Volyn town of Matsiyov (since 1946— Lukiv). One of the first mentions of it dates back to 1563. Gradually, the shtetl grew. As of 1897, there were already 2,337 Jews living in Volodymyr-Volynskyi; they comprised up to 60% of the total population. Around June 29, 1941, Matsiyov was occupied by the German army. A ghetto emerged in the town. To implement the Holocaust politics, the occupiers committed mass shootings of Jews. One of such massacres took place in 1942 or 1943 in the village of Okunyn, 5 km away from the settlement. About 365 Jews from the Matsiyiv ghetto died in the village. In 1993, a monument was erected at the site of the execution. As a result of combat operations, the territory was taken over by the Red Army in July 1944. During the German occupation, mass executions of Jews also took place in the neighboring settlements: Turiisk, Sushybaba, Khvorostiv. |

Значна єврейська громада проживала у волинському містечку Маційов (з 1946 р. Луків). Одна з перших згадок про них датується 1563 р. Штетл поступово розвивався. У 1897 р. тут проживало 2 337 євреїв, які становили 60% від загальної чисельності населення. Орієнтовно 29 червня 1941 р. Маційов був окупований німецькою армією. У містечку виникло гетто. Реалізовуючи політику Голокосту, окупанти масово розстрілювали євреїв. Одна з таких розправ відбулася у 1942, або ж 1943 р. в с. Окунин, що за 5 км від селища. У селі загинуло близько 365 євреїв із маціївського гетто. У 1993 р. на місці страти було встановлено пам’ятник. У результаті ведення бойових дій у липні 1944 р. вказану територію зайняла Червона армія. У період німецької окупації масові страти євреї також проходили у населених пунктах округи – Турійську, Сушибабі, Хворостові. |
