The first mentions of Jews in Luboml date back to the second half of the 14th century. Gradually, the shtetl grew. As of 1897, there were already 3,247 Jews living in the town; they comprised 73% of the total population. Apart from Luboml, Jews also lived in other settlements of the district. There was a small community in the village of Chornoplesy, 26 km away from the town. The village was occupied by German troops on June 25, 1941. Local Jews were relocated to the ghetto in Matsiyiv (since 1946— Lukiv). Some tried to hide. However, in August 1941, about 6 local Jews were shot in the woods near the village of Chornoplesy. During the German occupation, mass executions took place in other villages of the district: Opalyn (Vyshnivka), Birky, Holovne. As a result of combat operations, the territory was taken over by the Red Army in July 1944. |

Перші згадки про євреїв у Любомлі відносяться до другої половини XIV ст. Штетл активно розвивався. У 1897 р. у містечку вже проживало 3 247 євреїв, які становили 73% від загальної чисельності населення. Окрім Любомля, євреї проживали і в інших населених пунктах округи. Нечисельна громада була у с. Чорноплеси, що за 26 км від містечка. Село було окуповане німецькими військами 25 червня 1941 р. Місцевих євреїв переселили до гетто у Маційові (з 1946 р. Луків). Дехто намагався переховуватись. Однак, у серпні 1941 р. близько 6 місцевих євреїв були розстріляні у лісі поблизу с. Чорноплеси. У період німецької окупації масові страти відбувались і в інших селах округи – Опалині (Вишнівка), Бірках, Головному. У результаті ведення бойових дій, в липні 1944 р. дану територію зайняла Червона армія. |
