The Jewish community of Ratne (now a village in the Volyn region) was known since the 16th century. The town was growing dynamically. As of 1897, there were already 2,219 Jews living in Ratne; they comprised up to 71 % of the total population. The arrival of the German army on June 28, 1941 was immediately followed by the first executions of Jews. Some fled Ratne and sought refuge in the surrounding villages. On November 9, 1942, German police from the 10th Company of the 15th Regiment found such fugitives in a house north of the village of Zhyrychi. Among them were 2 adult Jews and 6 children. They were all killed and the house burned down. Most Jews from Ratne perished in the neighboring village of Prokhid in August 1942. As a result of combat operations, on July 19, 1944, the village of Zhyrychi was taken over by the Red Army. |

Єврейська громада Ратного (нині селище у Волинській області) починає формуватись у XVI ст. Містечко активно розвивається. За переписом 1897 р. у Ратному проживало 2 219 євреїв, які становили понад 71 % від загальної чисельності населення. Перші розстріли євреїв розпочались одразу із прибуттям німецької армії 28 червня 1941 р. Дехто тікав з Ратного і шукав порятунку в навколишніх селах. 9 листопада 1942 р. таких втікачів німецькі поліцейські із 10 роти 15 полку виявили у будинку північніше с. Жиричі. Серед них було 2 дорослих євреїв і 6 дітей. Всі вони були вбиті, а будинок спалений. Більшість ратнівських євреїв загинула у сусідньому с. Прохід у серпні 1942 р. Внаслідок ведення бойових дій, 19 липня 1944 р. с. Жиричі зайняла Червона армія. |
