Luhyny is a town, a district center in Zhytomyr region. The first information about the town dates back to the early 17th century. Around the same time, the local Jewish community emerged. According to the 1897 census, Luhyny’s Jewish population was 1,599, or 64% of the total population.
The Nazis entered Luhyny on July 28, 1941. No ghetto was established here, but a month later the killings of local Jews began.
The first shootings took place in late August in the village of Luhynky not far from the district center. Two campaigns took place in the city itself. The first one took place on August 29, 1941, when the 10th SS Regiment shot 51 Jews. After the war, the remains of the victims were reburied at the Jewish cemetery. The exact location of the shooting has not been established.

Лугини – селище міського типу, районний центр Житомирської області. Перші відомості про містечко датуються початком XVII століття. В той самий час виникає місцева єврейська громада. Як свідчить перепис 1897 року, єврейське населення Лугин складало 1599 осіб, що становило 64% населення.
Нацисти увійшли до Лугин 28 липня 1941 року. Тут не було створено гетто, однак через місяць почалися вбивства місцевих євреїв.
Перші розстріли відбулися в кінці серпня в селі Лугинки поблизу районного центру. В самому ж місті відбулося дві акції. Перша мала місце 29 серпня 1941 року, коли 10 полк СС розстріляв 51 єврея. Після війни останки жертв були перепоховані на єврейському кладовищі. Точне місце розстрілу не встановлене.
