Malyn is a town, a district center in Zhytomyr region, known since the mid 10th century. Its first mention dates back to the mid 12th century. As of the late 19th century, 2,547 Jews, or 59.8% of the total population, lived in the town.

Over the 20 years of the Soviet Union, the percentage of Jews in Malyn has almost halved, to 32%, or 3,600.

The Nazis occupied Malyn on July 22, 1941. In about a month, the largest mass shooting of local Jews took place. According to various sources, Sonderkommando 4a shot dead 670 to 1,000 Jews in Shcherbiv ravine. During the years of occupation, Malyn's Jewish population dropped by two thirds.

The first place where the Jews of Malyn were killed was the furniture factory, where the Nazis shot 120 victims.

Малин – місто, районний центр Житомирської області, відоме ще з середини X століття. Перші згадки про євреїв датуються кінцем XVIII століття. Станом на кінець XIX століття в містечку проживало 2547 євреїв, або ж 59,8% населення.

За роки радянського двадцятиліття кількість євреїв у Малині у відсотковому відношенні скоротилась майже вдвічі – до 32% або 3600 осіб.

Нацисти окупували Малин 22 липня 1941 року. Приблизно за місяць відбувся наймасовіший розстріл місцевих євреїв. У Щербовому яру зондеркоманда 4а розстріляла, за різними даними, від 670 до 100 євреїв. За роки окупації єврейське населення Малина скоротилось утричі.

Першим місцем убивства малинських євреїв стала територія меблевої фабрики, де нацистами було розстріляно 120 жертв.
