Ushomyr is a village in Korosten district of Zhytomyr region. The first mentions of the town in written sources date back to the 17th century. The first mentions of the local Jews date back to the late 18th century. As of the end of the 19th century, two-thirds of Ushomyr's population were Jews—1,754 or 74%. After the revolution and the civil war, the Jewish population remained more or less the same, and in 1926 numbered 1749 people.

The Nazis occupied Ushomyr on August 6, 1941. In the same month, the Nazis shot 59 (according to other sources, 58) Jewish men. About a dozen Jews were hiding in the basement of the local hospital, but their hiding place was discovered, and they were most likely shot in September on the banks of the Uzh River. In addition to the Jews, Ushomyr became the location for execution of 283 Red Army prisoners of war.

In addition to Ushomyr, Jews of Korosten district were shot in the city itself (4 places of execution), while the Hungarian Jews were exterminated in the village of Kupyshche.

Ушомир – село Коростенського району Житомирської області. Містечко відоме в писемних пам’ятках XVII ст. З кінця наступного століття з'являються перші згадки про євреїв. Станом на кінець XIX століття, дві третини населення Ушомира складають євреї – 1754 особи або ж 74%. Після революції та громадянської війни кількість єврейських мешканців містечка майже не змінилась і складала в 1926 році 1749 осіб.

Нацисти окупували Ушомир 6 серпня 1941 року. Цього ж місяця нацисти розстріляли 59 (за іншими даними, 58) євреїв-чоловіків. Близько десятка євреїв переховувались у підвалі місцевої лікарні, однак їхню схованку було виявлено та, швидше за все, у вересні було розстріляно на березі річки Уж. Окрім убивства євреїв, в Ушомирі були розстріляні військовополонені Червоної Армії – 283 особи.

Окрім Ушомира, євреїв Коростенського району розстрілювали в самому місті (4 розстрільних місця), а в с. Купище були знищені угорські євреї.
