​"Medzhybizh is a town in Dunaivtsi district of Khmelnytskyi region. Jews settled here in the 18th century. Gradually, the town became one of the most important Jewish centers of Podillya, because Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Hasidism, lived and died here. According to the 1897 census, the town was home to 6,040 Jews, who made up 74% of the local population. During the years of Soviet rule, the Jewish population decreased, and at the beginning of World War II numbered 2,347 people (51.6% of the population).
The Nazis occupied Smotrych on July 8, 1941. Only a few Jews managed to evacuate; the vast majority stayed in the town. They were placed in the ghetto and subjected to physical, economic exploitation, moral humiliation (in particular, the destruction of places of worship).
On September 22, 1942, the occupiers and the Ukrainian auxiliary police surrounded the ghetto and sent its inhabitants on the road to the village of Rusanivtsi. Here, in a ravine near the Southern Bug River, they were shot. The total number of victims was 1000. About a hundred Jewish residents of Medzhybizh were sent to the Letychiv concentration camp. About two hundred Jews were killed in April 1942. 
The Red Army liberated Medzhybizh on March 24, 1944. In 1967, a monument was erected to commemorate the victims of the September shooting.

Меджибіж – селище міського типу Летичівського району Хмельницької області. Євреї поселяються тут із XVI століття. Поступово містечко стає одним з найважливіших єврейських центрів Поділля, адже тут жив і помер засновник хасидизму Баал Шем Тов. Згідно з переписом населення 1897 року, в Меджибожі проживало 6040 євреїв, що складало 74% населення. За роки радянської влади кількість єврейського населення зменшилась, і на початок Другої світової війни складала 2347 осіб (51,6% населення).
Нацисти окупували місто 8 липня 1941 року. Лише декільком євреям вдалося евакуюватись, абсолютна більшість залишилась у місті. Їх помістили в гетто та піддали фізичній, економічній експлуатації, моральному приниженню (зокрема, нищення святих місць).
22 вересня 1942 року окупанти та українська допоміжна поліція оточили гетто та відправили його мешканців по дорозі на с. Русанівці. Тут, в яру біля річки Південний Буг їх розстріляли. Кількість жертв складає 1000 осіб. Приблизно сотню єврейських жителів Меджибожа було відправлено до Летичівського концентраційного табору. Близько двох сотень євреїв були вбиті ще в квітні 1942 року.
Червона Армія звільнила Меджибіж 24 березня 1944 року. В 1967 році було встановлено пам’ятник жертвам вересневого розстрілу.
