"Shatava is a village in Dunaivtsi district of Khmelnytskyi region. Jews have been known in this area since the 16th century. As of 1897, the Jewish community of Shatava numbered 725, or 34.5% of the population. On July 7, the village was occupied by the Nazis. In the summer of 1942, about 300 Jews from Shatava and the neighboring settlement of Makiv were shot dead by the German gendarmerie with the participation of the Ukrainian auxiliary police in the environs of the sand quarry. The victims also included Roma people. The Red Army liberated Shatava on March 27, 1944. " |

Шатава – село Дунаєвецького району Хмельницької області. Євреїв відомі в цій місцевості з XVI століття. Станом на 1897 рік єврейська громада Шатави налічувала 725 осіб, що складало 34,5% населення. 7 липня містечко окуповане нацистами. Влітку 1942 року в районі піщаного кар’єру німецька жандармерія за участю української допоміжної поліції розстріляла близько 300 євреїв з Шатави та сусіднього Макова. Серед жертв також були роми. Червона Армія звільнила Шатаву 27 березня 1944 року. |
